The Creative’s Guide to “Making It” Without Losing Your Soul
Since when did “not being famous” mean you’re not successful? Like, who made that rule?
We’ve been sold this idea that success = mass exposure, sold-out arenas, chart-topping hits, and your name in lights. And sure, when you’re starting out, it’s easy to idolise the overexposed and think that’s the dream. But is it really?
Why is that the only version of success we’re shown? What about being able to sustain a career doing what you love without losing your sanity, your creativity, or your weekends? That version sounds way more aligned, and honestly, way more fun.
I grew up a full-blown Britney fan – like, knew every dance move, dreamed of being on tour level fan. And for years, that was the goal: music, Studio, lights, stage, repeat. But let’s be real – with that level of fame comes a lack of freedom. Every move judged, every idea filtered, constantly chasing approval from an industry that loves you today and forgets you tomorrow. No Creative freedom
Now, I look at my life and thank the universe. I get to travel the world, perform every week, do private events in some wild places – and I’ve manifested this path without selling my soul to the machine. No viral fame, no major label control, just me doing what I love on my terms.
Yes, it’s not all glam – I’m still cramming into economy with zero sleep, lugging USBs through customs with 4 different types of headphones (did you know every professional dj has about 4 pairs of headphones on international gigs) – but I’d choose this over the burnout of chasing mass fame any day.
So here’s my real talk:
What actually defines success for you?
Because if you lose yourself chasing someone else’s version of it – the followers, the fans, the ego, you’ll burn out quicker than a TikTok trend.
Sometimes success is publishing that book.
Sometimes it’s hitting 100K streams.
Sometimes it’s finally saying “nah” to that gig that doesn’t align anymore.
Sometimes it’s just getting out of bed excited to create. and actually finishing the track
Here's my go-to creative guide to making it without losing your soul:
1. Do work that makes you want to jump out of bed.
If it doesn’t light you up, what’s the point?
2. Stay curious. Stay learning.
I just signed up for a new course on the music biz, started learning drums (yes, chaotic), and Italian…because why not? Growth is magnetic. KEEP LEARNING
3. Focus on being sustainable and stable.
Success isn’t just about the highs – it’s about not crashing in between them. What does sustainable look like for you?
4. Be inspired, but build your own brand.
Following trends is not sustainable (Burn Out Burn Out Burn Out) Trust me, I’ve done the “over-edit a video all day, post it, get 30 likes, cry in the shower” thing. But when I just share me? Hardly any effort, putting out videos that resonate with me, no trends It connects. Every time.
I always say this: consistency wins.
Keep creating. Keep collaborating. Keep putting your stuff out there. If you’re a full-time creative already – you’re living a dream most people only talk about.
Just keep showing up. Every day.
Do what you love.
And you’ll never “work” another day in your life.
